Boarding Schools
- The Association of Boarding Schools: www.schools.com
TABS offers helpful resources, including definitions and links to types
of boarding schools (military, junior boarding, pre-professional arts,
etc.); information for international families; and application advice.
See especially “The Truth About Boarding Schools.”
- Junior Boarding Schools Association (www.jbsa.org)
represents 14 schools in the Northeast and in Illinois that specialize
in elementary and middle school children. The site offers member links;
perspectives from parents, faculty, students, and alumni; essays on the
junior boarding school experience; and other resources.
- Western Boarding Schools Association (www.wbsa.net)
represents more than three dozen college-preparatory schools in the
western United States and Canada. The site provides a school finder, a
calendar of school fairs, and application materials.
Boys’ Schools
- International Boys’ School Coalition (www.boysschoolscoalition.org/)
represents 150 independent and parochial boys’ schools worldwide. The

The Association of Boarding Schools
TABS is the only non-profit educational organization exclusively
serving boarding schools and students in the U.S. It was formed in 1976
to address enrolment issues. In 2000, TABS became an independent,
non-profit organization serving nearly 300 schools. TABS provides
comprehensive programs designed to market boarding schools and to
maintain healthy and sound residential programs. |

The Association of Christian Schools International
ACSI accredits schools, certifies teachers and provides conferences for
teachers, administrators and board members. Student services include
academic and sports activities. ACSI also has products and services at
reduced costs, to update member schools on legal matters, provide a
teacher listing service and represent member schools with provincial

AWSNA comprises independent Waldorf schools and Waldorf teacher

Canadian Association of Independent Schools
CAIS encompasses independent schools that operate within Canada or
offer a curriculum leading to a Canadian diploma. Member schools are
non-profit institutions with elected boards of governors that hire a
Head to manage the operations of the school. To qualify, schools must
offer an academic program that will prepare students for entrance to
institutions of higher education. |

The Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators
The CCMA encourages the development of member schools' programs toward
Montessori ideals. An evaluation process has member schools share their
delivery of Montessori education with knowledgeable peers to provide
validation and to examine their own processes and objectives
critically. An evaluation team visits the school, confirming that the
process has been completed. Schools are then designated accredited. |

The Canadian Educational Standards Institute
CESI was founded to promote high educational standards while
recognizing the independence and integrity of each accredited school.
Member schools must have five years' experience and are regularly
evaluated. CESI's standards cover mission and objectives, values,
